soundlines for doggerland
A specially created, live composition made for a cultural exchange from the East to the South, a collaboration between eastern ear and the lost property collective & the ecomusicology project in Brighton. The piece is a sonic ritual involving the sounding of cultural artefacts including: flints; field recordings of rooks and jackdaws in dual-species murmuration under their ancestral Norfolk sky realms; an ear-like conch from other eastern shores that blows a (kind of) E for east as it remembers its fingery-eyed mollusc maker; imagined doggerland yowling tamed through electronic jiggery pokery: harmonically distorted ritual bowls as used in east anglian tribal gatherings; beats made from sounded ice sheet on a Norwich model boating lake; A circular poem from a medieval painting in Wickhampton Church recoded into musical notes, a spell of animacy between land and water, life and death:
"as you are now, so once were we
as we are now so shall you be"
