equinox pilgrimage 2026
A pilgrimage of listening, ritual and field recording. the old places, the edgelands, the liminal spaces. Medieval and Neolithic stopping places.
walking, listening, mapping a thousand year old line.
composing these audiovisual shorts on my phone using:
@lightbeamapps GoVJ
@koalasampler
so wonderful to be tracing this ancient line shortly before equinox.
I cant wait to unpack all the recordings of this adventure into a larger substantial sound work, but it was so great to be able to make these little vignettes each day on the fly using audio and video gathered on my journey.

perihelion
A spell, a ritual, an improvisation to the setting sun on its closest day to Earth (paradoxically in the depth of the northern hemisphere’s midwinter).
Playing to golden light with my favourite electronic companions. I lost myself for an hour or so in an aionic flow space, an unfolding present time of deep-listen, deep-play.
Somehow these 5 sound journeys carry glorious winter light and every time I listen, it feels like medicine.
Side A. perihelion i & ii
Side B perihelion iii, iv, v
running time 45 minutes
Currently available on @cassette tape or by request or on @Mp3/WAV
Not available to those with spotify accounts

winter solstice 2025
Winter Solstice 2025: Sunrise: Arminghall Henge, White Horse Lane, Norwich
5000 years old
Blowing conches, listening, drumming and yowling through pylons, hanging out with horses.
Later, at the time of the Solstice 15.03, Mundesley beach. Conches, ritual.
The work is imbricated into a UK wide project pulled into being by Adam Soper The light is reborn | solstice conspiracy

witch pilgrimage 2025
Summer solstice 2025. I walked with Ruth Minchin and Elinor Dale from We are Witch along the Yare Valley in remembrance of the women murdered for witch craft in East Anglia. A list that takes over 10 minutes to read aloud.
I was the sound artist for the trip and I have created a pice that will be presented this year on our second solstice pilgrimage and also at Black Shuck Festival in July.

All mouth becoming with Haley Craw
‘Woman is that creature who puts the inside on the outside. By projections and leakages of all kinds - somatic, vocal, emotional, sexual - females expose or expend what should be kept in. Females blurt out a direct translation of what should be formulated indirectly.’
Anne Carson, The Gender of Sound
All Mouth Becoming is a performance by Haley Craw and Charlotte Arculus, using ritual, movement and music, the mouth becomes a charged boundary to express embodied spiritual experience. Howling, crying, and bleeding, the symbolic becomes the real in ritual, challenging the boundaries between the internal and external experience. The suppressed wild woman is released through the mouth, her leaking barrier, her cackling howl. The female mystical experience is erotically charged, it is blood held in the mouth, sucked from Christ’s side wound, the maternal Christ loved by Julian of Norwich. Imparting embodied knowledge, a sense of connection to the memory of the space through ghostly sight, ritual is felt through the experience of
music, movement, and devotional objects. It is the language of paradox, it is and it is not blood. It is touching the unknown with drawn hands. It is touching where she may have stood. The self is annihilated through intuitively led ritual, Arculus’ music becomes Craw’s voice, their bodies merge. The shared body is connected to the charged space it fills, the voices of Medieval women crawl through the centuries.

soundlines for doggerland
soundlines for doggerland
A specially created, live composition made for a cultural exchange from the East to the South, a collaboration between eastern ear and the lost property collective & the ecomusicology project in Brighton. The piece is a sonic ritual involving the sounding of cultural artefacts including: flints; field recordings of rooks and jackdaws in dual-species murmuration under their ancestral Norfolk sky realms; an ear-like conch from other eastern shores that blows a (kind of) E for east as it remembers its fingery-eyed mollusc maker; imagined doggerland yowling tamed through electronic jiggery pokery: harmonically distorted ritual bowls as used in east anglian tribal gatherings; beats made from sounded ice sheet on a Norwich model boating lake; A circular poem from a medieval painting in Wickhampton Church recoded into musical notes, a spell of animacy between land and water, life and death:
"as you are now, so once were we
as we are now so shall you be"
